DANCE AND MUSIC

Oman’s location on the historic trade routes between Mesopotamia, East Africa, India, and East Asia has given it a unique blend of cultural influences. This musical example is a popular dance of young people from the southern coastal region, performed at social events such as weddings. Love songs are sung while two men dance slowly, each holding a dagger, accompanied by drums, a chorus of women, and an ’ud (lute) replacing the traditional flute.
